>March 11th, 2008: Skagit County Board of Commissioners Unanimously Approve and Accept The REC Schematic Design Plan. The plan was prepared by Sink Combs Dethlefs, The Sports Management Group, and eccosDesign, and is the result of three years of community based planning.

>The preferred facility concepts as approved by the County Commissioners are:

•    Three Court Gymnasium with Elevated Running Track: 32,542 Square Feet
•     Youth/Teen Activity Center: 6,800 SF
•     Family Oriented Fitness Area: 4,344 SF
•     Group Exercise/Dance Room:  2,301 SF
•     Multi-Purpose Meeting Rooms: 5,575 SF
•     Multi-Purpose Classrooms: 1,500 SF
•     Child Sitting Room: 955 SF
•     Lobby Spaces: 3,188 SF
•     Locker Rooms: 3,375 SF
•     Staff Areas: 2,128 SF

    Total:     62,708 Square Feet

Estimate of Probable Cost:    $14 million      (@ $224 / SF)

>Dollars Currently Committed to the REC:

• $5 million -Skagit County Capital Dollars
• $1 million -State of Washington

>Skagit County Staff are working now on financing plans for the remaining $8 million. In addition, various partnerships are still being explored and discussed.
