Recreation

The recreation services provided by the Skagit County Parks and Recreation are a significant asset to the community. People who are interested may participate in these activities or those just curious might try different events to broaden their experience.

  • The "Bald Eagle Festival" trip, led by Cheryl Willis on 2/8/04, stopped at the Interpretive Center in Concrete and joined a guided observation tour at Howard Miller Steelhead Park in Rockport.
Just arrived at the Interpretive Center. Lauren Woodmansee at the Skagit County Parks and Recreation Booth. Quick bite of lunch ... Bill with grandson Patrick look for Bald Eagles on the Skagit River. Getting ready to leave Howard Miller Steelhead Park.

Skagit County Parks and Recreation is a non-mandated department, meaning it is not deemed an essential county service. Therefore SCPR receives only a portion of its operating budget through traditional county general funding (tax dollars). Consequently, individuals, families, teams, etc. pay a nominal user fee to partake in recreational opportunities such as enrichment trips, guarded swimming at Clear Lake Beach, playing in sports leagues, camping, boat launching, etc. Daily use of the parks system however, remains free, unlike many other systems (state parks, other counties, USFS, etc.) that require parking and entry fees or worse case scenario, closure!
